# The Bible

The Bible is the central holy book of the Christian, Jewish and other religions and is maybe the most famous and influential book in the world.

The original Bible was written in Hebrew, Aramaic (Old Testament) and Koine Greek (New Testament). The King James Bible1 from 1611, is a widely used English translation, as commissioned in 1604 and published in 1611, by sponsorship of King James VI and I.

Thanks to the Bible being out of copyright, countless versions have been written, such as the above King James Bible, American Standard Version2, the Darby Bible3, the English Standard Version4, the Great Bible5 and so many others in a large number of languages, including constructed ones like Toki Pona6 and Esperanto.

Printed Bibles usually have over 1000 pages. It is probably the best selling book ever – estimates talk about 5 billion sold copies.
