Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions is an 1884 book by Edwin Abbott Abbott (1838 - 1926) about a fictional two dimensional world inhabited by living geometrical shapes. The book examines the nature, mathematical properties and obstacles to life in spaces of different dimensions, but also presents deeper philosophical questions and criticism of society.
The prothagonist (and a pretended author of the book) is a Square.
