QEMU is a virtual computer, which allows you to run software (even a different operating system) in a window from your own OS.
For example, if you are not using GNU/Linux, it will allow you to try it in a window.
QEMU can load a second operating system from a virtual hard drive (a
file on your computer which it uses as a drive) or an .iso
file.
GNU/Linux users will want to use QEMU with the -enable-kvm option, otherwise qemu will be slow.
windows users will want to the -enable-hax option,
otherwise qemu will be slow.
Either of these options may require virtualisation to be enabled in the bios settings.
