The Quaran1 is the central holy book of the Islam religion, believed to contain the word of Allah, who Muslims believe is the one true god - it is similar to what the Bible is to Christianity. It is shorter than the Bible and consists of 114 chapters (surah) composed of verses.
Muslims, the followers of Islam, believe the sacred text of Quaran was delivered to the prophet Muhammad by God's messenger archangel Gabriel between years 610 and 632 so that he could restore Islam. It is believed to be a literal transcript of God's words.
Vocalized Arabic: ٱلْقُرْآن, Quranic Arabic: ٱلۡقُرۡءَان, also romanized as Qur'an or Koran.↩︎
