The Suffrage Cook Book is the name of an 1915 cookbook compiled by Mrs. L. O. Kleber that features a number of wholesome recipes like carrot soup, stewed chicken, tomato toast, corn bread, and many others, all submitted by suffragettes and their allies, both in the USA and in the UK.
Reading from this book can be moderately interesting - it was made in
1915, only a few years until the United Kingdom allowed women to vote
(Representation of the People Act 1918; see Q3427309
on Wikidata) and a year later in the United
States with the 19th amendment to the Constitution (1919; see Q205304.
The book itself contains feminist quotes - from both men and women -
such as from Irvin S. Cobb;
Women cannot make a worse mess of voting than men have. They will make mistakes at first. That is to be expected. It will not be their fault, but the fault of the men who have withheld from them what they should have had before this. But eventually they will get their bearings, and will use the ballot to better effect than men have used it.
Or by Judge Ben Lindsay:
Do not misunderstand me. Woman suffrage is right. It is just. It is expedient. In all moral issues the woman voters make a loyal legion that cannot be betrayed to the forces of evil[.]
Some of the other names that pop up in the credits are ones like Lady
Constance Lytton (Q6470046
on Wikidata; also known under the pseudonym of
Jane Warton; 1869 - 1923), a British suffragette in favor of prison
reform, votes for women, and birth control - she was imprisoned during
1909, where she was force-fed while on hunger strike, and during this
time, she used a piece of broken enamel from a hairpin to slice the
letter «V» for «Votes for Women» onto her breast.
She would submit Hasty Pudding, her «favourite pudding».
